Hi, I'm Nina Iordanova and this is the 35th edition of Something Good, a newsletter filtered through my 🧠, 🖐, and ❤️. Coming your way every two weeks, I hope you find something good here.
Hello, I have spent most of the last 2 weeks being sick. Not even Covid-sick according to the 5 tests I took. Just regular sick, like a medieval peasant.
I tried getting groceries delivered for the first time (hated it), ordered take-out for 4 meals in a row (hated it) and eventually got the energy to make fresh salad with breaded fish (also hated it).
Food is, at the best of times, not something I want to be deeply involved with. At the worst of times, it feels like my day is made up of dreading getting hungry, then dreading figuring out what to eat, then hating eating. Then having the cycle repeat multiple times a day.
I’ve tried Soylent (the new-age meal replacement) but it sucks for replacing a meal when you’re actually hungry. I’ve tried getting a bunch of fancy frozen foods, from the practical to the whimsical (shepherd’s pie, pizza, vegan mozzarella sticks, sweet potato popcorn, breaded fish), and have mechanically eaten most of them just to have eaten. And also to clean out the freezer which, frankly, was the biggest win.
I promised myself I’d try giving myself an unlimited budget for dinner takeout, then I imagine the indecision of picking what to eat and it coming all mashed up in a styrofoam or paper or cardboard box and ugh. So I’ve settled on getting XL burrito bowls that by their very nature are all a-jumble and I can eat them for 2 days.
And this is how, according to UberEats, I am now one of Burrito Bandidos most faithful customers. They have a 3/5 star rating on Yelp, but I don’t think we have to talk about it.

The only other thing I have to tell you about this week is my skincare routine. I like to use Pixi Rose Tonic because it smells nice, is affordable, and has rose water as the second ingredient. I don’t really know what it does, it just smells very good. Then I do CeraVe moisturizer on top.
I remember going through a bunch of Sephora face cream samples years ago, really hoping to find some $90 moisturizer with squalane (which I thought for years was snail extract but isn’t??) that would turn out to be the only moisturizer I could possibly use. Or better yet, that it would be the $475 face moisturizer from La Mer (which I thought had ground up pearls but doesn’t??? Where do I get this information??). However, it wasn’t meant to be.
My favourite and best moisturizers are the $20 per gallon CeraVe one and a $4 rose yogourt one from Bulgaria. Like I said, medieval peasant who gets by just fine with snail-free pearl-free moisturizers.
Well, that’s all from this end of the couch.
Hope you are having a much more exciting week!!
Oh and two photos!
This is from when Gemma came to keep me company post-nap, which I thought was very sweet. Only it turned out she was not keeping me company at all but just came to chew the bed frame and eat the acrylic paints underneath it.
And then THIS photo is… potentially… actually very sweet! It’s of Gemma’s first voluntary cuddle with me (post-nap but in a different location):
This happened after many days of googling “how to tell if my dog loves me” so am I manifesting or not, YOU TELL ME!
Okay, hope you are having a GOOD ONE!
(excessive caps, got carried away but I mean it!!!)
✨
Warmly yours,
Nina
Thanks for reading and I'll see you in two weeks! 👋
Something Good #35
Sorry to hear that you're sick!
I'm reluctant to post this link because this is my favourite comfort food place and I don't want it to get too busy lol. https://www.nozomi.ca/ Try the crispy tofu poke bowl with taro chips. Make sure to ask for the sauces on the side. The large order is enough for 2 meals. Hope this cheers you up!
Gemma looks so cute! Enjoy your long weekend!
